As a musician, you’re an athlete. Your body requires the same attention and care that elite athletes employ to achieve the highest levels of consistency and quality in performance.  This workshop will introduce you to a comprehensive program of preventative and corrective exercise, allowing you to reach your maximum potential, increase career longevity, gain strength, and ultimately perform injury-free. Part lecture, part movement class, we will address the many aspects of performance related repetitive stress. Jona Kerr runs the Jacobs School’s “Classically Trained Fitness and Wellness" program and will be joined by Bloomington manual medicine and rehabilitation specialist, Dr. Brian Murer.

This workshop is intended to help address some of the major mental hurdles of the performing musician's life, exploring current understanding of the attributes of elite athletes and how they are relevant to the performing musician. Topics will include developing resilience, building internal confidence, managing feedback and developing an internal encouraging voice. Stacey Kim is a licensed clinical social worker who has more than two decades of experience working in classical music administration. Aubrette Kinne is a doctoral candidate in IU's Counseling Psychological program specializing in sport psychology.

See you there!
