Alyson Kanne is a Harp Performance major entering the third year of her undergraduate studies and has a passion for innovation in the arts and mission-based music making. After working with organizations such as the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln Hall, and the Bloomington-based Secretly Group, Alyson looks forward to applying her knowledge of the music industry to her work with Project Jumpstart. 

Alyson enjoys performing a variety of genres, from baroque to contemporary, and is passionate about expanding the harp's rich repertoire. As an orchestral musician, she has performed at venues such as Orchestra Hall (Chicago), Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park, the Chicago Theatre, and The National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.

MATTHEW RECIO: Media Specialist

Matthew Recio is a returning member of the Project Jumpstart team. An avid vocal composer, he was recently named the 2017 American Prize winner in the choral composition category and, this past May, his opera "In Memoriam" (with libretto  by Molly Korroch) was premiered by New Voices Opera. Recio is a two-time winner of the NOTUS Composition Competition, a winner of the Cincinnati Camerata Competition, finalist in the YNYC competition, and a finalist in the Morton Gould Awards. William Stowman's newly released CD, A Timeless Place (Klavier Records Label) features Recio's song cycle Chronology of Storms, with poetry written by Jenna Lanzaro.

As a composer of instrumental works, Recio has been represented at the Midwest Composer Symposium, the UNK Music Festival, the Hammer and Nail Dance collaboration, and the Double Exposure Film Scoring Initiative. His chamber works received recognition at the IMTA young artist composition competition and the Quartet Nouveau competition. Recio is a composition fellow alumnus for the IMANI Winds Chamber Festival and has written for the Atlantic Music Festival, the Valencia International Performing Arts Program, Yale’s Norfolk Chamber Series and Donald Nally’s award-winning choir “The Crossing”.

A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Ithaca College (B.M Composition and Music Education), Recio is pursuing his D.M. in music composition.

JACKIE SKARA: Engagement Specialist

Originally from Long Beach, CA, Jackie Skara is now in her third year of her PhD in Music Education at the Jacobs School, with a specialization in string methodology. Having received her bachelors and masters in viola performance from the University of Southern California and Northwestern University respectively, she has had many exciting opportunities to perform. She is currently the assistant director of the Fairview Violin Project, working closely with her mentor, Dr. Brenda Brenner. Additionally, she is the beginning orchestra teacher at Summit Elementary and the viola coach for Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis, while maintaining a small studio of private students. Most recently, Jackie has been involved with the Cheerful Heart Mission’s music education program in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, where during this summer she was an artist-in-residence.

Community engagement has always been an important aspect of her academic and personal life, and she is honored to be the music education department’s graduate and professional student government representative, serving on the diversity committee. Finally, Jackie is very excited to become the engagement specialist with Project Jumpstart and looks forward to building innovative partnerships between departments, organizations, and the student body of Jacobs.

LOVISA VIKENADLER: Manager

Lovisa Vikenadler is an experienced and multifaceted performer, active in both solo and collaborative performance across Europe and the US. As a second year Performer Diploma student at the Jacobs School, she holds a BM in clarinet performance from the Danish National Academy of Music (DNAM) in Odense, Denmark.

Lovisa is an experienced arts administrator and innovator, working as Artist Manager at the Carl Nielsen International Competition (Denmark) for two years. She has participated in an innovative improvised music collaboration between the Brandt Museum of Art and public elementary schools in Odense and redesigned the Students Concert Series at DNAM.

As a performer, Lovisa strives to create an inspiring and thought-evoking musical experience for the audience. In her solo and chamber music performances, she enjoys mixing the classical repertoire with elements of Swedish folk music and free improvisation, as well as incorporating her own compositions and cross-border arrangements. Recent performances range from solo recitals in DNAM’s Concert Hall to intimate unaccompanied performances in local churches. Her orchestral experience includes performing with Odense Symphony Orchestra and serving as principal clarinet in DNAM’s production of Britten’s “Beggar’s Opera” and Nyborg Voldspil’s productions of “My Fair Lady” and “Sound of Music”.
