The National Society of Arts and Letters Bloomington Chapter is holding its annual competition in instrumental music, with support from the Office of Entrepreneurship and Career Development. Instrumentalists from the Jacobs School of Music are invited to compete for the following prizes:
FIRST PLACE: $1,000 |
SECOND PLACE: $750

Saturday, February 23rd | Sweeney Hall | 9am-5pm
Application Deadline: Friday, February 1st | 5pm
There will be limits to the number of time slots available, so to ensure you are accepted to the competition, submit your application as early as possible.
Eligibility
- Must be at least 18 and no older than 29 as of April 14, 2019.
- Must not be under exclusive professional management or representation.
- Must be a resident of Indiana or enrolled as a student in the state of Indiana.
Guidelines
- Contestants should prepare three contrasting repertoire selections: two works chosen from the following periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary and a third piece chosen from any genre. The contestant may choose to perform a single movement from a concerto or other longer work.
- If repertoire requires accompaniment, contestants must arrange their own accompanist.
- Each contestant will perform for a maximum of 10 minutes.
- The contestant may choose what repertoire to begin with and the judges will ask for additional selections.
- Top award winners are expected to perform in the NSAL Showcase on April 14, 2019.
