Saturday, September 21 |
10:30am-5:00pm
{Well-Advised} Lunch at 12:30-1:30pm
Musical Arts Center, MC070
Practice Teaching Strategies: An Integrated Curriculum for Contemporary Creative String Playing
One of the world’s most acclaimed jazz violinists, Christian Howes, will travel to Indiana University Jacobs School of Music to introduce string students to a blend of contemporary music, modern technology, and improvisation. While most classically trained violinists may excel at Mozart and Bach, few venture off the written page to explore their instruments through other facets such as jazz, rock or improvisation. “String instruments are usually associated with classical music,” said Howes, “but many string players are now developing original, contemporary styles, allowing us to express ourselves in current, culturally relevant ways.”
