The diction requirement is for students to demonstrate proficiency in diction in English, French, German, and Italian by examination or by passing Jacobs School of Music diction courses with a grade of C or better. Students have two opportunities to take the diction exams (during orientation week of their first two semesters of enrollment, including summer). Which languages are needed will depend on the student's major field and what they passed in their first semester. For example, Voice majors do not need English diction, but do need French, German, and Italian.
This form is used for students signing up for a diction exam re-take for any exam they did not pass in their first semester. If you do not know which diction exams you need, you can either email your advisor (Sara Erbes and Andrea Dollinger) at musadvgr@iu.edu or check your Academic Advisement Report (which can be found on One.IU.edu).
