MUS-K 403/503 - Electronic Studio Resources I
3 credits. Offered every fall.
An introduction to the computer music studio, including the use of microphones and mixers, digital audio workstation (DAW) software, and virtual instruments for sampling and synthesis. Other topics include acoustics, basic digital audio theory, and classic analog subtractive synthesis.
P: Permission of instructor. No previous experience with digital audio workstation software is required. Enrollment is limited to 12 students, with priority given to composition majors and minors. Others can enroll after at least one semester of K100 (or equivalent). Contact Professor Gibson with any questions.
MUS-K 404/504 - Electronic Studio Resources II
3 credits. Offered every fall.
A continuation of K403/K503, including advanced synthesis and sound processing techniques, interactive software design with Max, and a comprehensive study of the literature and styles of the classic tape studios, as well as recent literature and trends in computer music.
P: Permission of instructor. K403/K503 (or equivalent) and a background in music composition is required. Enrollment is limited to 12 students, with priority given to composition majors and minors.
MUS-K 406/506 - Projects in Electronic Music
3 credits. Offered every fall and spring semester.
Advanced projects in electroacoustic composition. Course may be repeated.
P: Permission of instructor. K403/K503-K404/K504 or a similar course sequence at another institution is required.
MUS-K 509 - Seminar in Computer Music
3 credits. Offered every other fall.
Study of advanced topics in computer music, including algorithmic composition, digital synthesis and signal processing, acoustic research, and interactive software design.
P: Permission of instructor.
