Schedule Build Basics
Schedule Builds are the process by which the Schedule of Classes for each semester is created. For each semester, the process is as follows:
- The Schedule of Classes for a fall/spring/summer semester is copied over from the prior parallel fall/spring/summer semester (i.e., the prior fall semester's classes are carried forward to the next fall semester; same "carry foward" process for spring and summer semesters). This is the starting point for each semester's Schedule of Classes.
- Department chairs will be sent a Preliminary Schedule Build. This is a list of that department's classes in the given semester. The department chair works with department faculty to review the details, and to request all necessary changes and additions to those classes. Department chairs submit the Schedule Build back to the Jacobs Scheduling Office for implementation.
- A couple months later, department chairs are sent a Final Schedule Build. This is a second and final chance to make any remaining changes to the semester’s Schedule of Classes prior to student enrollment. Same process as step 2 above.
- With all changes in place from the Final Schedule Build, student enrollment then opens for the semester in question.
