The Department of Musicology is one of the top ranked musicology programs in the nation.
Our department is a close and friendly community of scholars. We have a large and active faculty whose research and teaching cover a wide range of fields and a variety of scholarly approaches. We offer MA and PhD degrees, courses in music of all periods, strong financial aid, an outstanding music library, and the resources of a major research university and a comprehensive school of music.
Department life centers around the Musicology Colloquium Series, where we gather almost weekly to present and discuss research by graduate students and faculty members. Masters students participate in a Musicology Reading Group to discuss recent literature. PhD seminars and methods courses offer opportunities for close work with faculty and fellow students. The Graduate Musicology Association and numerous departmental get-togethers from picnics to concerts reinforce our sense of community.
