UNIT 1
Goals

Objectives
- To participate in the Twinkle entry (with variants)
- To sing a scale with solfege syllables while demonstrating proper body motions
- To sing an octave, m2, M3, P4 and P5 using solfege syllables and body motions
- To march in place and echo (by clapping and saying the Cheve syllable) simple 4 beat rhythm patterns using ta, ti ti, tiri tiri, ta-a, and ta-a-a-a
Chapter 17: Eurythmics. Teacher and students march in place. Teacher claps and says four beat pattern at the students, and they imitate her. Students can also make up four beat patterns for their peers to imitate.
- To demonstrate the correct set up procedure
- Rest position
- Feet together
- Take a step
- Rock back and forth like a tree in the wind
- Echo tapped rhythms over the high dot (Twinkle rhythms)
- Slide over the magic X
- Statue of Liberty (be creative in counting!)
- Place violin on collarbone
- Check for good positions (no turtle necks or violin beards)
- To review the Ants Song and perform with good ensemble
- To sing GDG, DAD, AEA (as individual pieces first, then together)
- To pluck GDG, DAD and AEA (as individual pieces first, then together)
- To compose a piece patterned after GDG using different strings
UNIT 2

- To learn the parts and proper care of the bow
- To practice a correctly shaped bow hold with the tip in the air
- To practice taps with right hand fingers using Twinkle rhythms (Can you tap your pinky? Now tap your first finger. Middle fingers.)
- To practice bow games (Windshield wipers, stir the soup, rocket ship, alien, unicorn, pinochio, etc.)
- To practice shoulder bowing – tiri tiri ti ti, grasshopper, Mississippi is a river (say and play it)
- To bow tiri tiri ti ti on open A and E
UNIT 3

- To march in place and echo (by clapping and saying the Cheve syllable) simple 4 beat rhythm patterns using ta, ti ti, tiri tiri, ta-a, and ta-a-a-a
- To recognize basic written units of rhythm (ta, ti ti, tiri tiri, ta-a, and ta-a-a-a) and be able to clap very simple patterns
- To bow tiri tiri ti ti on open A and E, imitating the teacher in echo patterns
- To bow single martele notes on A and E in the upper half of the bow
- To practice silent string crossings on A and E at middle and tip.
- To play AEA with the bow using upper half only
UNIT 4

- To pluck GDG, DAD and AEA and play AEA with the bow
UNIT 5

- To read simple rhythmic flashcards in 4 beat patterns with 4 beats of rest between
- Say and clap rhythm while feet are marching basic unit
- To practice placing 1st finger on A string – Bullseye
Chapter 18: 1st Finger Bullseye: Students slide down from high dot over their magic x to set first finger on A string, landing on the bullseye. Finger tapes should be placed for the first and third finger at this point.
