Elective Voice Requirements and Responsibilities
Course Number: Z110 / V100 undergraduate elective
Z710 / V700 graduate elective
Prerequisite: Students must be able to read music
Requirements: Students must learn four new songs or arias per semester. Three must be memorized. Vocal literature may be chosen from art song, folk, and musical theater repertoire. Foreign languages are not required.
Students must sing a jury each semester for their AI and their AI's major teacher. The student will offer two memorized pieces (only one may be heard), and the jury grade will count as one half of the semester grade.
Applied music majors (in other performance areas) are required to give a jury in the spring semester only.
Responsibilities: Students will receive one fifty-minute lesson each week. AIs must be notified of cancellations twenty-four hours in advance of the lesson in order to be responsible for making it up. Tardiness is strongly discouraged, and teachers are not obligated to teach students who arrive to their lessons more than fifteen minutes late.
Each student will receive thirteen lessons during the semester.
Lessons cancelled by the AI will be made up at a time mutually convenient to the student and teacher.
PLEASE NOTE: THREE UNEXCUSED ABSENCES RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC FAILURE
If there are extenuating circumstances, the student must discuss them with his or her AI and the Secondary Voice Coordinator.
The student must provide an accompanist for whatever portion of the lesson the AI deems necessary. Students can obtain names of available accompanists on lists posted outside of MU105 and MA371.
Problems: If a problem arises, please contact the Secondary Voice coordinator via e-mail at secvoice@indiana.edu
