- Congratulations to MM Jazz student Cami Mennitte Pereyra on being selected for the Jazz Education Network's Mary Jo Papich Women in Jazz Scholarship for 2020!
- We are honored to share that Brent Wallarab's IU Jazz Ensemble has been invited as one of 10 university jazz ensembles nationwide to the Jack Rudin Jazz Championship at Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC in January 2020. Read the press release here.
- Congratulations to Brent Wallarab and his IU Jacobs School Jazz Ensemble! Their concert performance of Wallarab’s Gennett Suite, recorded for broadcast by WTIU, has been picked up by more than 105 PBS stations nationwide paired with WTIU’s documentary The Music Makers of Gennett Records. - Wayne Wallace, professor of jazz trombone and director of the IU Latin Jazz Ensemble, released Rhythm of Invention in summer 2019 and made it into the top 10 on the JazzWeek Radio chart. The title track features a rap written by Wallace followed by excerpts of David Baker speaking about rhythm in jazz. Listen here.

Mission
Our mission is to prepare students for professional careers and leadership roles in jazz and related fields of contemporary music by providing exceptional training that equips students with the flexible skills and experience required of successful, well-rounded musicians, and creative jazz artists.
A wide variety of performance opportunities and a comprehensive curriculum ground our students in the rich history, traditions, and culture of jazz while nurturing their exploration of new and contemporary styles in an environment that encourages a free-flowing exchange of ideas between faculty, students, guest artists, and the community.
Our faculty, students, and alumni serve as a resource for the Jacobs School of Music, university, state, national, and international communities through our world-class creative activities in performance, composition, education, and scholarship.
