This curriculum provides a double focus in music and another area of study offered at Indiana University, approved by the director of undergraduate studies. Outside fields are a minimum of 27 credit hours, subject to approval of the director of undergraduate studies and the advisor of the outside field department or program. Outside fields must be in a non-music area.
To declare an outside field, students meet with an academic advisor from the outside field area they wish to study to create their outside field. The advisor then completes the Outside Field Proposal Form. Students should declare their outside field by their fourth semester (end of sophomore year). Students with questions about specific outside field possibilities can contact their academic advisor and/or explore existing areas of study at IU (excluding the music options).
