Midwest Composers Symposium
The Midwest Composers Symposium takes place every year at the home of one if its four member institutions (Indiana University, University of Michigan, University of Iowa, and University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music).
CALL FOR SCORES: SOLO, CHAMBER WORKS and ELECTRONIC WORKS
All currently enrolled IU composers are invited to submit no more than 2 scores (written during residency at IU) for performance consideration at the Symposium. Selected composers are responsible for providing IU players to perform their works.
In order to involve as many IU composers as possible, pieces with shorter durations will be favored; chamber works for 4-6 instruments are particularly appropriate. Indicate on your score the duration of the piece; if it is a multi-movement work, also indicate if any movements can be performed separately. The deadline will usually be in early September.
Selected composers will need to submit the following materials:
a) Composer Information: composer’s name exactly as it is to appear in the program, year of birth, and e-mail address.
b) Composition information: title of composition (with movements, etc., as they should appear in the program), year completed, and duration. Indicate if this performance will be a premiere.
c) Program notes and bio should be attached on a separate sheet. Please limit each to 250 words.
d) Names of performers
e) If the piece is an electro-acoustic work, indicate what equipment is needed.
All submissions that do not meet the deadline will not receive special considerations. Submissions of PDF scores and mp3 recordings should be made to this box folder, along with general information about the piece (title, duration, year completed, instrumentation). If you haven't yet, you should set up your free account at https://box.iu.edu/. Once you set up your account, you can join the folder and upload your submissions. Please make sure your files are labelled in the following format:
MCS_lastname_title.pdf
MCS_lastname_title.mp3
If there are any questions about or problems with the submission process, please contact Professor Phan (pphan@indiana.edu) and cc the Composition Coordinator (compinfo@indiana.edu) as soon as possible. We look forward to receiving your submissions!
