Areas of Study
Gifted students from around the world come to Bloomington to study with the Jacobs School's internationally respected faculty in woodwind instruments in an environment where talented musicians strive for the highest possible standard in musical performance. The faculty of world-class performers and pedagogues represent diverse performing careers in symphony orchestras, solo recitals, and chamber music, encompassing all styles of classical, jazz, and new music.
Applied lesson study is offered in flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone. All music majors study with faculty members, benefiting from individual faculty mentoring throughout their degree work. In addition to weekly private lessons, students enjoy a wide array of performance opportunities in solo, chamber music, and large ensemble settings. Faculty also offer regular master classes, as well as courses in orchestral repertoire, pedagogy, reed making, and audition preparation. Graduates of the program hold key performing and teaching positions worldwide.
