The Indiana University Children's Choir is committed to educating children in the western tradition of great choral music while also exposing them to a wide variety of musical cultures from around the world. The program combines a solid music education with a multitude of opportunities to perform in and for the community. During the process of learning to sing, to read music, and to understand a little about music history, choristers acquire confidence and self-discipline, assets that will be with them all their lives.
The choirs rehearse and perform throughout the school year, working with a team of conductors and musicianship teachers, some of whom are nationally recognized in their fields. All five choirs in the program perform in annual winter and spring concerts, as well as in specially arranged performances elsewhere. Advanced units of the choir are often incorporated in the IU Jacobs School of Music concerts and performances, and individual members of the choir have participated in IU opera productions and musicals.
