Jaeeun Kim
Jaeeun Kim was born in Busan, South Korea and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music (D.M.) degree in choral conducting at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She has studied conducting with Betsy Burleigh, Walter Huff, Dominick DiOrio, Steve Zegree, William Jon Gray, Carmen Helena-Téllez and Richard Tang Yuk at Indiana University, and has participated in conducting masterclasses with Simon Carrington, Vance George and Steve Zegree. Also, she has studied harpsichord with Dawn Kalis and baroque recorder with Michael McCraw.
She began studying piano at the age of four and went to arts middle and high school to study music in earnest, specializing in piano performance. She received her Master of Music (M.M.) degree in choral conducting at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and Bachelor of Music (B.M.) degree majoring in choral conducting and minoring in musicology at Korea National University of Arts, where she studied with Martin Behrmann and graduated summa cum laude in 2011.
Currently, Jaeeun is an Associate Instructor for the Choral Department at IU as well as the Associate Conductor for IU The Last Savage Opera Chorus and University Singers. Also, she serves as Director of Music at the Korean United Methodist Church of Bloomington, IN. In the US, she has conducted the IU Symphonic Choir and IU University Chorale as Co-Conductor, and Bloomington Korean Baptist Church Choir as Music Director. She has worked as assistant conductor for NOTUS: IU Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, IU H.M.S. Pinafore Opera Chorus and Cendrillon Opera Chorus. She has also conducted various ensembles in Korea including KNUA Recital Choir, HongIk University Choir, Poetia Women’s Choir and several church choruses.
Jaeeun is also active as a pianist, an accompanist and a choral singer. She has played the piano in several solo and duo recitals, and served as accompanist for soloists and choirs. She has accompanied NOTUS, IU Le Nozze di Figaro Opera Chorus and IU All-Campus Choir at Indiana University. She has sung also in NOTUS, Symphonic Choir and IU Oratorio Chorus at the Jacobs School, and in KNUA Recital Choir, Pro Arte Singers Seoul, and Cantabile Singers in Korea. She attended the 2010 UNESCO Youth Forum for the 2nd World Conference on Arts Education and performed with her a cappella group at the opening ceremony. A strong believer in community service, Jaeeun currently donates her musical talent by volunteering to teach music and conduct the student choir of Jawaharlal Nehru University in India.
